Boost your energy live 17% longer! Start here

You know the scenario: The office clock has just struck two and your energy levels have you stuck in neutral all of a sudden. The traffic accident that turned your usual commute into a 1 1/2hr ordeal didn't exactly get your morning off to a rousing start. Parking your keister in your standard-issue chair for several hours straight only made things worse--namely, a sore back, a nagging headache and a noticeable lack of concentration. Your starchy-cards lunch only left you feeling bloated and struggling to stay awake. The Snickers-and-Starbucks combo revived you briefly, but the buzz was short-lived and you now face the last few hours before quitting time with all the energy and enthusiasm of the 2010 English World Cup team.

Why should this concern you? After all, it's hard enough just coping with your workload, endless meetings and the boss' insanity from nine to five, right? Well, a growing number of researchers agree that the implications of sitting for hours on end go well beyond the fading out before the day is done; feeling habitually drained in the workplace may not only degrade your job performance but also have serious consequences for your health and fitness.

*Get an ergonomic chair
*Air out your lungs
*Take control, step outside several times a day
*Ease up on the wrists
*Reduce eye strain
*Feed your thirst
*Practise good desk hygiene
*Avoid mindless eating
*Train your brain

Reduce distractions at work. Unnecessary phone calls, emails and text messages can reduce your IQ by up to 10%, according conducted by a psychiatrist at King's College London University.

Perform some non-work-related mental exercise. At least once or twice a day, take a break from your usual work task and spend five minutes doing a crossword puzzle. This will strengthen neural pathways and neuronal synapses, increasing your problem-solving ability and intelligence.

Perform as many activities as possible with your non-dominant hand; this will make your brain work a little harder, keeping you sharp during those times when your energy and focus may flag.

Get at least eight hours of sleep each night to ensure peak brain performance throughout the following day. A National Sleep Foundation study found that half of U.S. workers say that lack of sleep affects their job performance.
