A Dog's Purpose from a 6-yr old :)

A Dog’s Purpose? (from a 6-year-old) Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa , and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker ‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ”I know why.” Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live. He said,”People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The Six-year-old continued, ”Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.” ✤ Live simply ✤ Love generously ✤ Care deeply ✤ Speak kindly Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like: ❊ When loved ones come home, always run to greet them ❊ Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride ❊ Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy ❊ Take naps ❊ Stretch before rising ❊ Run, romp, and play daily ❊ Thrive on attention and let people touch you ❊ Avoid biting when a simple growl will do ❊ On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass ❊ On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree ❊ When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body ❊ Delight in the simple joy of a long walk ❊ Be loyal ❊ Never pretend to be something you’re not ❊ If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it ❊ When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently By: Karen McNeill http://bayintegratedmarketing.wordpress.com/2012/03/18/a-dogs-purpose-from-a-6-year-old

Happiness Lies in Wait..

I once read an article about a crowded little island. It turns out that everyone in the world, including you and me, has visited this destination several times. The island is called the Someday I'll--and many people who go there never return: "Someday I'll get my driver's license, and then I'll be happy. Someday I'll graduate from college, and then I'll be happy. Someday I'll have a wonderful job, family, house, dog and boat, and then I'll be happy. Someday I'll retire and--just you wait and see--I'll really be happy then." Life on the Someday I'll isn't so bad. To be honest, I often find myself washed up on those dreamy shores. It's a peaceful, stress-free little place; there's usually something "just around the corner" to look forward to; and every tomorrow always promises to be better than today. The problem, of course, is that tomorrow is promised to no one, and today is really the only day we have. As one of the quotes in these pages reminds us, "Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand--and melting like a snowflake." Happiness is not so much a distant destination or a prized possession--it's more a matter of personal choice, or a way of traveling. Not just someday, but each and every day offers endless opportunities to live, love, laugh and learn--to open our arms and let it all in--and to share the day with those we love. It's in these everyday moments, both large and small, that happiness lies in wait.

Wine Lovers? Read this...

Sparkling Wines for Every Day -- Get beyond champagne and embrace sparling wines that don't require a special occasion. These six styles are affordable, easy-drinking, and go great with a big meal. 1. CAVA - Avinyo Seleccio La Ticota Brut Nature Gran Reserva $37 -- This is a delicious cava from a Catalonian vineyard outside Barcelona. A dry, gently spicy wine, it is a great bubbly to serve with large meals - seafood dishes, in particular. 2. CREMANT DU JURA - Les Chais du Vieux Bourg 2008 $20 -- Hailing from the Jura region of eastern France and made primarily of chardonnay grapes, this is a tangy, pleasantly austere, somewhat exotic wine that should be served with a rich poultry dish. 3. ROSE - Patrick Bottex Bugey-Cerdon "La Cueille" $23 -- Bugey-Cerdon is a slightly sweet rose produced in the foothills of the French Alps. It has red fruit notes and soft texture and is a great bubbly for an outdoor party, pairing especially well with cheeses and desserts. 4. PROSECCO - Casa Coste Plane Valdobbiadene Frizzante $23 -- Here is a prosecco of unusual gravitas. A product of meticulous Italian farming and minimal intervention in the cellar, it is a complex, substantial wine that can hold its own against top-flight sparklers from other regions. 5. VOUVRAY - Huet Vouvray Petillant 2007 $30 -- Domaine Huet, located in France's Loire Valley, turns out a sensational sparkler that has all the depth and complexity of a top champagne at a third of the price. Made from chenin blanc grapes, this wine has unique notes of quince and honey. 6. CALIFORNIA - Roederer Estate Anderson Valley NV Brut $23 -- Produced by the California arm of the fabled champagne house Louis Roederer (of Cristal fame), the Roederer Estate Brut showcases the Mendocino coast. It is a compact, elegant bubbly that will win over even hardcore champagne buffs.
